Obituary of Jagmohan Singh Chahal

It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of our dearest Jagmohan Singh Chahal, 87, of East Greenbush on Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany, NY.

Born in India, Jagmohan was the son of the late Dr. Gurdial Singh Chahal and the late Kartar Kaur Chahal. He immigrated to the United States to attend the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI. He obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering and Master’s Degree in Business prior to relocating to the Capital District. Jagmohan retired from the NYS Public Service Commission in Albany where he had served as a Utility Engineering Specialist.

Jagmohan is the beloved husband of 55 years to Pushpinder Kaur Chahal and together they raised their two children. He enjoyed spending time with his family and was very active in the local Indian community. He was a very social person by nature and always made himself available when someone needed a helping hand. Jagmohan was a devout Sikh and attended weekly services at Gurudwara. He was an active member of the Sikh Association of the Capital District where he served many roles including President and Board Chairman.

He is the cherished husband of Pushpinder Chahal, devoted father of Daljit Chahal and Harinderpal (Tlhomamiso) Chahal, adored grandfather of Priya Chahal, and dear brother of Manmohan (Balbir) Chahal, Iqbal (Komal) Chahal, and Surinder (Harpreet) Chahal, the late Krishna (S. Rajpal) Kaur, the late Juginder (Jagdish) Kaur, the late Surindermohan (Kimthi) Kaur and the late Bhupinder (Surinder) Gill, also survived by several nieces and nephews and their families.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather with the family on Thursday, June 12, 2025 from 6 to 8 pm at the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, Inc, 565 Fourth Avenue, Troy, NY 12182 and for funeral services on Friday, June 13, 2025 at 10 am at the Gardner Earl Memorial Chapel in Oakwood Cemetery, 186 Oakwood Avenue, Troy, NY 12182.

The family also invites you to join them at the Capital Gurudwara, 301 Washington Avenue, Rensselaer, NY 12144 for religious services later that day.
