Obituary of "Pops" Samnarine

“Pops” Samnarine, 78, of Waterford, NY and formerly of Schenectady, NY, beloved husband for 22 years to Parbodai Samaroo Samnarine, passed away surrounded by his loving family at home on Sunday, July 27, 2025.

Born and educated in Guyana, South America, he was the son of the late Baljit Singh and Parbattie Ramcharran Ragbir. He came to America in December 1997 and settled in Bronx, NY where the family resided and later in Schenectady, NY.

“Pops” was a Security Guard Supervisor with Copstat in the Bronx, NY.

He loved being around family and sharing his stories and knowledge with them. His hobbies, interests, attributes and things which he truly enjoyed included fishing, building things, gardening, playing cards, movies, playing dominoes, and farming.

In addition to his beloved wife Parbodai, he is the devoted father to Sharmila “Dolly” & Ricardo Smith, Neirmala “Shelly” & Andrew Malatesta, Ganesh “Rick” Samnarine & Melissa Singh, Gopaul “Arnold” & Nicole Samnarine, and Nandi Samnarine, a dear brother to Radica Jaggernath and the late Lilowtie “Patsy” Rajpaul and the cherished grandfather of Nickolas, Eros, Rosie, Rebecca, Jessie, Cassandra, Sally, Charles, Mya, Aria, Addy, Elijah, Kaleigh, and Julian along with being a great grandfather to Ezara. He was also survived by several nieces, nephews, their families, and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to Calling Hours on Wednesday, July 30, 2025 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Route 9, Clifton Park and to the Hindu Service with a Eulogy Ceremony at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 31, 2025 at the Gardner Earl Memorial Chapel at Oakwood Cemetery 186 Oakwood Avenue, Troy, NY 12182.
