Obituary of Om Parkash Matta

Om Parkash Matta, 93, died on Thursday, January 22, 2026 at the Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, NY.

He was born on April 5, 1932 in Delhi, India and was the son of  the late Bhagat Ram and Veera Kumari Devi Matta.

He was the beloved husband of Kewal Matta, who died on April 16, 2019 and with whom he spent 65 years together. He was a devoted follower of Babaji Ajit Singh Chaggar and is the father of five children, Sushma Kumar and Dharam Kumar, Parveen Matta and Neelam Matta, Parvesh Matta and Jyoti Matta, Pardeep Matta and Jyoti Matta, and Vipan Matta and Niti Matta. He had 13 grandkids Manish Kumar and Dayse Kumar, Neil Kumar and Purvi Kumar, Priya Khurana and Amit Khurana, Rohit Matta and Shonaya Matta, Ankit Matta and Yashica Matta, Honey Matta and Vaneeta Matta, Atul Matta and Sanam Matta, Rishabh Matta, Shriya Matta, Drishti Matta, Shivam Matta, and Siddhi Matta. He had 11 great-grandkids Ishan, Shivam, Simrin, Maya, Siya, Krishna, Angel, Rishik, Vasavi, Krishvi and Aashvi. He was an accomplished businessman, a patriarch of two families, and a devoted man for whom every breath was a prayer.

The funeral will be on Saturday, January 24, 2026 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Gardner Earl Memorial Chapel and Crematorium at Oakwood Cemetery, 186 Oakwood Avenue, Troy, NY 12182, where the cremation will occur. After that the ceremony will occur in Niskayuna Gurudwara, 1944 Union Street Schenectady, NY 12309.
