Obituary of Paul B. Curry

Please share a memory of Paul to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Paul Brian Curry, 80, of Clifton Park, died on Wednesday August 15, 2018 at his residence in the loving company of his family. He was born on Jan. 4, 1938 in Berkeley, CA and was the son of the late John Curry of Blue Mountain Lake, NY and Isabelle Granville-Curry of Ithaca, NY. Mr. Curry graduated from St. Bernard’s Parochial School in Saranac Lake, NY, Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter, NH and from Cornell University (Ithaca, NY) in 1960. After service in the military as an officer in the Transportation Corps (Army) he worked in Nevada for Kennecott Copper Corporation, as an industrial relations representative. In 1965, he became a field examiner for the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). From there, he went to the New York State Public Employment Relations Board (PERB) in Albany (1968) and worked there for the next 33 years as a staff mediator and later as an assistant director of conciliation. He also taught the collective bargaining course for Cornell University’s ILR Extension Division (Albany) from 1978-2002.

Paul was involved in various volunteer work. He was an active member of St. Mary’s Church in Crescent.  He served at the St. Peter’s Hospice Inn for over 20 years.  He was involved (since 1992) with the Residents Encounter Christ (R.E.C.) prison ministry, volunteering mainly at Washington Correctional Facility in Comstock, NY.  He was also involved in the Right-to-Life movement.  Finally, he served as longtime coffee maker for the Friends of Bill W. at Round Lake (Paul was probably more respected for his cookie procurement than his coffee making).

He married the love of his life and best friend, Mary Jane Kluchko Curry on August 11, 1972. He is the devoted father of Jennifer (Hugo) Spindola, Rebecca Anne Curry and Daniel (Margot) Curry; cherished grandfather of Hugo Paul Spindola, Levon Dean Curry and Viggo Robert Curry; brother of James Alan Curry, Richard Kay Curry and the late John Robert Curry, David Curry and William Morrison Curry; also survived by several nieces and nephews. Paul always felt his loving family was his great accomplishment in life.
