Obituary of Evelyn R. Petryk
Dateline: Clifton Park, New York
Evelyn Sophia (Rudman) Petryk, 97, died on Saturday, May 14, 2022 in Troy after a long illness. Born in Springfield, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of Swedish immigrants Axel Frithiof Rudman and Bertha Marie (Petersson) Rudman.
Evelyn was a 1942 graduate of Mont Pleasant High School in Schenectady, the first high school graduate of her immigrant family. After graduation she worked at General Electric, where she met her husband and then moved to North Tonawanda, New York where she lovingly raised her family of four children. Education and reading to her children were important to Evie. After moving to Clifton Park in 1968, Evelyn became involved in her community, volunteering with CAPTAIN’s after-school tutoring program, ushering at SPAC, all while working and keeping a magnificent flower garden. After her children were older, Evelyn pursued her own dream of furthering her education, graduating from the College of St Rose at age 65. She worked at the Clifton Park Halfmoon Public Library for 24 years and was honored for her stewardship of the popular “Friday Morning Free-for-All” program when she retired in 1998.
Evelyn is survived by her son, Michael Petryk (Christine Connell) and daughters Susan Hammond and Amy Petryk (Christian Casals) and her grandson, Noah Hammond. She was predeceased by her husband Joseph and daughter Kathleen and her three sisters, Lillian Vedder, Dorothy Cieszynski, and Florence Petersen.
