Obituary of James Howard Schermerhorn

James Howard Schermerhorn, 62, of Longkill Road passed away peacefully on Friday July 30, 2021 at his home. He was born on April 8, 1959 in Cohoes, NY and was the beloved son of Howard James Schermerhorn of Halfmoon, NY and the late Joan Ellen Melesky Schermerhorn. Jim was a graduate of Shenendehowa High School, class of 1977, and Hudson Valley Community College. A retiree as of October 2020, Jim provided over 40 years of dedicated service to the GE Research and Development Center. Jim most loved spending time with family and friends, listening to music, playing with his dog and working on his truck. He was a passionate member of the Trans AM-Z/28 Enthusiasts car club. Jim will always be remembered for his bright smile, heartfelt hug and quick wit. He was the voice of reason for many, especially his sister Laurie.
In addition to his dad, Jim is survived by and the devoted father of Evan James Schermerhorn of Malta, NY and Tyler Robert Schermerhorn of Ballston Lake, NY; their mother, Deborah Schermerhorn of Malta, NY, and sister Laurie (David) Sparks of Malta, NY. Additionally, he is survived by his soulmate Karen Hallenbeck of Ballston Lake, daughter Ashley Lynn Hallenbeck (fiancé Andrew Thomas Sansom) of Ballston Lake, NY, and Karen’s parents, Donald and Jean Dean; also survived by several nieces, nephews and his 4 legged son "Duke" and grandson “Artie.”
Funeral will be held on Friday at 12 noon in the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Rt. 9 Clifton Park, NY 12065.
Calling hours will be on Thursday from 4-7 pm in the funeral home.
Interment will be in Jonesville Cemetery, Clifton Park, NY.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Joshua Fund Rescue Organization, PO Box 408, Jay, NY 12941, which was near and dear to Jim’s heart.
