Obituary of Barbara Ann Meyer

Barbara Ann Meyer, 90, long time resident of Jonesville, NY: Englewood, FL: and more recently Schuyler Ridge in Clifton Park, NY, passed away peacefully on Saturday March 25, 2023 with her loving family by her side. She was born in Troy, NY on April 18, 1932 and was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Margaret Sears. Danforth. She was a graduate of Albany High School and Mercy Hospital School of Nursing (1952) at AMCH in Albany, NY.
Barbara worked as a Registered Nurse until retirement in 2013. She started as a candy striper in HS as her lifelong goal was to be a registered nurse. After graduation from nursing, she married and moved with her husband (who was stationed in Fort Drum) where she worked at the Army based hospital. They started their family, moving back to the Albany area once Richard was discharged. Barbara worked for many years in the office of the late Dr. N. Freemont in Albany. She was a nurse manager at Villa Immaculate Rehab (SNF- now known as St. Peters Healthcare) prior to moving to FL in 1991. In FL she worked as a supervisor at South Venice SNF, then retired from working in a physician office. Barbara had a very successful career as an RN. She was loved by all and put her heart and soul into nursing (She would hand make Christmas gifts for all her staff).
She had been a member of the Jonesville Methodist Church while living in NY, and the S. Venice Yacht Club in Fl. She was a talented artist, painter and enjoyed sewing and making clothes for her grandchildren. A known trait of Barbara’s was her wittiness, she was always writing clever letters/poems.
Barbara was a member of the United Volunteer Service (UVS) in Albany, became VP, then President. She organized many successful art shows for the organization. She played a large role in getting special education in Shenendehowa, which allowed her daughter and her friends to be the first special ed graduating class at Shenendehowa HS in 1991.
She was the beloved wife of the late Richard F. Meyer, whom she married on Dec. 6, 1952, until his passing on June 22, 2022 They enjoyed over 69 years of marriage. She is the devoted mother of Kenneth F. (Laura) Meyer of Clifton Park, Linda D. (David) Alling of Ballston Lake, Richard B. (Colleen) Meyer and Kimberly I. Meyer both of Clifton Park. She was pre-deceased by her sister, Nancy Sue Norfleet; She is survived by 10 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter and several beloved nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held at 11:00 am Thursday April 6th. 2023 in the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Rt. 9 Clifton Park, NY 12065.
A calling hour will precede the funeral service from 10-11 am Thursday in the funeral home.
Interment will be in the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, NY, with her beloved husband Richard.
