Obituary of Tanja E. Canty
Tanja E. Canty, 54, of South Troy, peacefully passed away on Easter Sunday, April 9, 2023 at Albany Medical Center Hospital after a lengthy battle with heart issues.
Born in Troy, New York, she was the daughter of the late Thomasina Canty and Eugene Dukes and was a graduate of Troy High School.
Ms. Canty had been employed at the Van Rensselaer Manor in the Dietary Department for 27 years until 2019 when her health would no longer allow.
Tanja was a home-body, a very delicate soul and just an overall pleasant person.
Loving niece of Lucille and Pearl Canty, cousin to Josephine, Anthony, Tyrone, William and William “Nuckey” (Tracey), companion of Darnel Gibson, sister of Darlene and Sheila, best friend of Mariah, godmother of Lexus Pompey, Nyesha Pompey and Sharay Rivera, also survived by a host of relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 20, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. followed by her Home Going Service at 11:00 a.m. both at Bethel Baptist Church, 2165 Fifth Avenue, Troy, New York 12180. Rev. Dr. Byron E. Williams, Sr., Pastor, Officiating.
Following the funeral at Bethel Baptist Church, interment will be held in Graceland Cemetery, Albany.
Repast will be held at Bethel Baptist Church Hall following the interment.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted by the family to the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, Inc. 565 Fourth Avenue (at the corner of 115th Street in Lansingburgh) Troy, NY 12182.
