Obituary of Richard H. Porter
Richard H. “Dick” Porter, 84, of Speigletown, beloved husband for 58 years to Jane Bryans Porter of Speigletown, peacefully entered into eternal life on Saturday, December 7, 2024.
Born in Ticonderoga, NY, he was the son of the late Harold Bernard and Helen V. Benway Porter and was a graduate of St. Patrick’s School in Watervliet, Knickerbocker Junior High School and Lansingburgh High School, Class of 1958.
He proudly served from 1961 to 1967 in the U.S. Army and was awarded the Sharpshooter (Rifle) and Marksman (Carbine) medals.
Mr. Porter retired after 42 years of dedicated service from Tek-Hughes (Playtex International) in Watervliet where he was a Supervisor. He then was assisted families as a Funeral Assistant at the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, Inc. in Lansingburgh.
Dick was committed and proud to his country and his community and was a Life-Member having served in various capacities including the Board of Directors at the Veterans Of Lansingburgh, the Troy Patriots with Mike “Harry” Gully having served as a Commissioner for many years, and was a communicant of Transfiguration Parish in Speigletown.
Dick took great care of himself and walked four miles daily. After his walk, he could likely be found at the Vets Club of which he was a proud member. He loved his family immensely. Dick enjoyed his walks, golfing and spending time with his family and friends.
Beloved husband to Jane Bryans Porter, devoted father of Susan (Shaun) Fredette, loving brother of Sharon (Clayton) Williamson, cherished grandfather of Dakota and Zachary Fredette, dear brother-in-law of Margaret “Peg” Dolan, also survived by several nieces and a nephew.
Relatives and friends are invited to visitation on Thursday, December 12, 2024 from 9:30 a.m. to10:30 a.m. and to Dick’s Funeral Mass of Christian Burial that morning at 10:30 a.m. at Transfiguration Parish (formerly St. Bonaventure’s Church in Speigletown) 50 Hillview Dr., Troy, NY 12182.
Interment with military honors will follow in Memory’s Garden, Colonie.
The Family would like to thank our family and friends for their support during his illness and for the care he received from the 6 Floor at Samaritan Hospital and also the care that he received at The Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation at Hoosick Falls.
