Obituary of Sarah Elizabeth Barrington
Sarah Elizabeth Barrington, 103, of Rexford, formerly of Potsdam, NY, Chicago, IL and Whitesboro, NY, peacefully entered into eternal life on Wednesday, December 18, 2024 in the comfort of her home.
Born in Whitesboro, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Mary Bevan Copperwheat and the beloved wife of the late, Thomas M. Barrington, who she married on October 16, 1943 at Holy Name Cathedral in Chicago, IL. She was a graduate of Whitesboro Central School, Class of 1939 and the Utica Memorial Hospital Nursing Program, Class of 1943.
Mrs. Barrington was a School Nurse for the Potsdam Central Schools, the Office Nurse at the practice of Dr. Austin in Potsdam as well as a Nurse at Potsdam Hospital and Wesley Memorial Hospital in Chicago, IL.
Mrs. Barrington served with several social, civic and church activities in Potsdam and had also been a Girl Scout Brownie Leader.
Devoted mother of Carol (Anthony) Gigliotti, Mary (Tyler) Carlucci and Thomas (Marie) Barrington, Jr., cherished grandmother of Paul Gigliotti, Lisa Gigliotti and Sarah Reiber, adored great grandmother of George Thomas Reiber, also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to Sarah’s Mass of Christian Burial at St. Edward the Confessor Church, 569 Clifton Park Center Rd., Clifton Park, NY 12065 on Tuesday, April 15, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. and to her Burial that afternoon at 1:00 p.m. in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Granville, NY, where she will be laid to rest alongside her beloved husband, Thomas.
Sarah’s family wishes to express their most sincere gratitude to Maryann and Tom King for their loving care, comfort and support which they provided.
Those desiring, may make memorial contributions to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet Development Office, 385 Watervliet-Shaker Road, Latham, New York 12110, in memory of Sarah E. Barrington.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted by the family to the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 RT-9, Clifton Park, NY 12065.
