Obituary of Martha Joyce Scherer
Martha Joyce “Martha Joy” Scherer, 73, of 113 Vischer Ferry Rd., died on Monday August 21, 2017 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady after a long illness. She was born on Sept. 23, 1943 in Albany and was the daughter of the late Francis and Martha Augusta Gustav Navilia. She had attended Russell Sage College and had worked for the New York State Education Department in Albany. Martha Joy was the beloved wife of John L. Scherer, whom she married on Dec. 6, 1969. She had worked for a number of years at the Exit 8 McDonalds, was a member of the Ladies Auxillary of the Vischer Ferry Fire Dept. and had been a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Crescent. She was an accomplished artist and cook, and enjoyed travel, reading, and exploring with her ipad, especially recipes. Martha loved making special treats for her grandchildren, and her homemade cookies for Clifton Park’s semi-annual history bike rides were famous.
Survivors in addition to her husband John, include her devoted children, John Andrew (Kyla) Scherer of Malta, NY and Amy Elizabeth (Matthew) Miller of Port Angeles, Washington; sister of the late Linda Mae Hull; Cherished grandmother of Hadley and Scarlett Scherer.
Funeral will be held on Thursday at 10 AM from the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Rt. 9 in Clifton Park, NY 12065
Calling hours will be from 4-8 pm Wednesday in the funeral home.
Interment will be in Jonesville Cemetery, Jonesville, NY
