I just returned from a trip and was notified of this.
My heart goes out to his children as well as all family members.
MAC was an amazing man who ALWAYS helped everyone. He had a unique way of seeing the “ good” in everybody.
He touched my life personally in many ways giving advice and just lending his time and effort to my then family.
I thank him from the bottom of my heart.
This is one great man who will NEVER EVER be forgotten for all of his goodness!

My sincere condolences to the McCart family. I worked with Harwood in East Greenbush on the Radar detail. His love of cars was evidenced by his ability to name the make, model, color and price tag of the cars passing through his Radar beam ! RIP my brother ..............

My condolence to Mac's family, he was one heck of a Trooper. I worked with him a long time in the Troop "G" Mod squad as well as in the squads and he was outstanding in those positions. Mack was one of a kind, he was musically inclined and he made the long long bordering surveillance's much more enjoyable with his wit and humor and when assigned a undercover role he was outstanding there also. But he was a man's man and he would always have your back, I loved working with him in undercover rolls and you did not have to worry at all when working with him. I'm sure he will be missed by his family and friends as well as all of us who have had the honor of working with him throughout his carrier. Rest in piece my friend just flip the tin at the Pearlie Gate and you will be let right in.

I first met Harwood back in 1963 as a new member of the N.Y.S.P. Harwood was a very unique individual who was funny, talented, and at the same time very dedicated. Through the years our paths crossed from time to time and in my estimation Harwood never waivered from being Harwood. Our encounters increased after we both were promoted into the B C I. It was there that Harwood found his nitch. Harwood was assigned to many undercover operations and always got the job done. He was fearless and used his many talents to wrap up his assignments. Harwood was a good man who did things his way. Harwood was my friend and I miss him already. Harwood old buddy wherever you are your friendship and exploits will be talked about whenever old Troopers gather to talk over old times. Rest in peace old friend, you earned it.

Scott,Lynda and Paul: I am very sorry for your loss.Mac was indeed a very talented undercover Trooper. He was never caught at a loss for comebacks. This gift got him into many important investigations. I had the privilege of working with him in the Mod Unit and had many conversations with him. He was very proud of his “kids” and the adults you were becoming. A lot of Troopers have found memories of the job he did.
