Obituary of Janet D. Rohan

Please share a memory of Janet to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Janet Dee Rohan, 80, of Clifton Park, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 10, 2018, at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, NY.  She was born on December 3, 1937, in the town of Hitchcock, Spink County, South Dakota, the daughter of the late John and Nita B. DeGarmo Trebian. Raised on a farm, she was the youngest of six (6) children.  She attended high school at Huron HS in Huron, SD, where she was elected senior class secretary, was part of the drama club, and graduated in 1955. She then attended Cottey College in Nevada, MO, where she was awarded a two-year scholarship, and also became a member of the Emerson Society. She later attended Huron College, where, in 1957, she was elected President of the Young Republicans, Vice President of the Eulalean Society, was a member of the Huron College Campus Players, and was named to the Dean’s List.

Janet met her future husband, John, while working at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland.  They married in 1962, and went on to have four (4) children.  Janet was a homemaker, as well as a caring and devoted wife and mother.  She enjoyed gardening and crafting, as well as playing cards and board games with her family.  She particularly enjoyed playing Skip Bo, and would joke about taking victory laps around the house when she won.  Janet was well known to those that loved her as “The Tracker”, due to her uncanny ability to locate anything and everything that others before her long attempted to track down without success, whether it be the hot new toy that was missing from the barren store shelves, a part that may have been discontinued for years, or otherwise. We were all well aware of the fact that you could put “The Tracker” on it and then just rest assured that somehow, some way, the elusive item of your desire would be found.  Her efforts were legendary.

Few people enjoyed the holidays like Janet. She was particularly fond of Christmas and she took great pride and personal satisfaction in putting her special decorative touch on every room of her home including the two Christmas trees which were so prominently displayed, one of which revolved to her delight. Family meant everything to Janet and being together, especially around the holidays, was always very important to her.

Janet was married to the late John Eamon Rohan for nearly 52 years at the time of his passing on November 17, 2014.  She leaves behind three sons, Michael (Colleen) Rohan of Concord, NC, Brian (Lori) Rohan, Esq. of Delmar, NY, and Mark (Amber) Rohan of Colonie, NY, a daughter, Heather (Donald) Moore of Clifton Park, NY, and her dog and trusted companion, Jake. Janet was also the cherished grandmother of Connor, Taylor, Kyle and Aydan Rohan as well as Cailin Moore.  She was predeceased by her much beloved siblings: Edwin, Marjorie, Phyllis, Marilyn, and John. She is also survived by a great many nieces and nephews.  She will be greatly missed and forever loved.

Inurnment will be held in the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, NY, on Tuesday, July 31, 2018, at 10:00 AM.  There will be no calling hours.
