Obituary of Monica Marrow Russo
Monica Marrow Russo, 57, of Mechanicville passed away on Saturday August 4th, 2018 at the Joan Nicole Prince Home after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer.
Born in Troy, NY she was the daughter of Arthur N. Marrow Jr. (June) of Halfmoon and her late mother Frances (Dworak) Marrow.
Monica was a 1978 graduate of Keveny Memorial Academy in Cohoes, who then went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from St. Bonaventure’s University. After graduating, she then went on to serve her country in the Air National Guard.
At the time of her death, Monica was employed as an Analyst for the Knolls Atomic Power Lab in Niskayuna. Prior to her position at KAPL, she served as the Development Director for over 5 years at Girls Inc. in Schenectady. Monica was also an employee of Farm Family Insurance in Glenmont for several years, working in their marketing & advertising department. She enjoyed her time with the Schenectady Rotary Club, even joining some of her fellow members in Haiti to assist in the installation of water filtration systems for local communities.
Monica had an adventurous spirit and a zest for life. Some may remember her voice from the local airwaves as radio personality Charlie Philips. Some friends may even remember her Lia Sophia or Pampered Chef parties as she loved to try her hand as an entrepreneur. Monica was an avid New York Mets fan who never missed a chance to watch a game. She was passionate about cats, especially her beloved Andy who she rescued from a local shelter. Monica always wanted to skydive; she accomplished this a few years ago and it remained one of her fondest and proudest memories.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to her friends who cared for her during her illness, as well as the staff at NYOH and the Joan Nicole Prince Home who showed true compassion during Monica’s final days.
Besides her father, Monica is survived by her two sisters Catherine Klose (David) of Clifton Park and Deborah Neaton (Chris) of South Carolina, her niece and godchild Heather Klose of Brooklyn, NY as well as several Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.
A Celebration of Monica’s life will be held Wednesday evening at 7PM at the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 US 9 Clifton Park. Visitation will be held prior from 4-7PM.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Monica’s memory to the Joan Nicole Prince Home 22 Glenview Drive Scotia, NY 12302.
