Obituary of John R. McKnight
John R. "John Boy", "Mad Farmer" McKnight, 52, peacefully entered into eternal life surrounded by his family on Wednesday, October 24, 2018.
Born in Troy, John is the son of Raymond "Ray" and Antoinette "Toni" Albarelli McKnight of Brunswick and he was a graduate of Lansingburgh High School, Class of 1984.
John was the owner and operator of McKnight's Dairy Farm in Brunswick for nearly the past 20 years after having worked there with his Uncle Frank.
He enjoyed tractor-pulling, farming, welding, fabrication work and doing diesel mechanical work on any kind of equipment. John was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone, most of the time before taking care of his own tasks. He was a longtime member of the Rensselaer County Farm Bureau and volunteer firefighter with the Speigletown Volunteer Fire Department.
In addition to his parents Toni and Ray of Brunswick, he is the devoted father of John W. "Junior" McKnight of Brunswick and Jaime McKnight of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, who were recently predeceased by their mother Maureen Matthews McKnight, cherished and best friend since childhood of Eric Gregoire of Brunswick, also best friends of Scott Bourette of Brunswick and Dan McIntyre of Poestenkill. John was also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins, his close circle of friends and many other buddies.
Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours on Saturday, October 27, 2018 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, Inc., 565 Fourth Avenue (corner of 115th Street in Lansingburgh), Troy, New York 12182 and to the funeral service which will be celebrated there beginning at 5:00 p.m.
The family would like to also invite you to join them on Saturday evening at 6:00 p.m. at the Speigletown Volunteer Firehouse, 146 Speigltown Rd., Troy, NY 12182, for a reception in John's honor and to continue to celebrate his life.
The McKnight family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to everyone at Samaritan Hospital and Community Hospice of Rensselaer for their dedication and loving care.
