Obituary of Edward S. McDermott, Jr.

Edward Seymour McDermott, Jr. 68, of Troy, beloved husband of 40 years of Michelle A. Spenard McDermott of Troy, peacefully entered into eternal life on Sunday, May 5, 2019 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy.

Born in Troy, Ed was the son of the late Edward Seymour McDermott, Sr. and the late Anna May Coy McDermott. He was a graduate of Lansingburgh High School, Class of 1968 and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War.

Ed was all about his Irish! He loved Celtic and Irish music, collected Irish memorabilia and shillelaghs’ and was always so darn proud of his Irish heritage and it’s culture. He administered a Facebook page “The Very Best in Irish and Celtic Music” and loved the camaraderie with over 10,000 followers. He was also a huge fan of WWE professional wrestling and always enjoyed Wrestlemania, most recently #35.

Beloved husband of Michelle, devoted father of Bebhinn (Keith) Francis, Edward S. (Abigail) McDermott, III and Kaitlin McDermott, cherished grandfather of Annabella Viscusi, Keith Francis, Jr., Liam McDermott and Cassidy McDermott,  brother of Richard S. McDermott, also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Edward's family is asking that his relatives and friends join them on Saturday, May 11, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at McAddy's Pub, 452 Broadway, Troy, NY 12180 for Ed's Irish Wake. They ask that you please bring your guitar, fiddle, other instrument and voices and to share a song with them in honoring Edward there that evening as he would have wanted.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted by the family to the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, Inc., 565 Fourth Avenue, (corner of 115^th Street in Lansingburgh), Troy, NY 12182.
