Obituary of John D. Hanshaw

John D. Hanshaw, 74, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed into God's kingdom on Sunday November 27th 2016 at Ellis Hospital after a long, courageous battle with lung disease.
John was born on January 10, 1942 in Ithaca, NY to John G. Hanshaw and Augusta L. (Laun) Hanshaw. He graduated from Ithaca High School in 1959 and received his degree from Syracuse University in 1963. While at Syracuse he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He served as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army and later, the Army Reserves. John met his beloved wife Elizabeth on July 1, 1966 at IBM. They married in 1968 at St. Adalbert's Church in Schenectady. John worked in marketing for IBM for over thirty years. He was a long time dedicated volunteer of Clifton Park Youth Baseball where he coached and served as a board member. John was a communicant and usher at Corpus Christi parish.
John is predeceased by his sister, Mary Collins, and his parents. He is survived by his devoted wife, Elizabeth, children, Carolyn (Joe) Carello of New City, NY and John T. (Cindy) Hanshaw of Stoneham, MA; and grandchildren, Joseph, Jack and Jonathan Carello and Madeline and John P. Hanshaw.
Entombment will be at Most Holy Redeemer in Niskayuna will be private. Contributions in John's memory may be made to City Mission of Schenectady, PO Box 760 Schenectady, NY 12301 or citymission.com.
