I had the pleasure of working with Mary Jo @ the Center for Disability Services, Watervliet House for many years. She was a true advocate for people with disabilities. She was a hard worker, who never seemed to tire from a days work. I am very sad to hear of her passing. She will be joining a host of so many she gave tirelessly to, who will greet her on the other side! My deepest sympathy to her family!

Peace be with you and also with you, we said too many times to count. Now you are at eternal peace. Thank you for all the kind words you bestowed upon me, and the many memories of your life you shared with me and the girls.
My heart and prayers are with your family and friends.

This post is from Donna Corrado
I met MJ for the first time when I was dating her brother. She had on a Catholic school uniform her hair was parted in the middle with 2 long pigtails. Lots of curly black hair and the most beautiful smile you ever saw. That smile never changed through out her life. After marriage I lived with her and she had a sweet easy going personality. Either that or she was playing her cards real close to her chest even them. But I don't think so. She was also a wonderful aunt to our girls. She used to let them play on her new 1st year ever Apple computer and they would play stick figure skiing. She also had a hamster in a ball they liked to watch run around her room. Jessica even went with her to watch her play her horn at PAL in Philly..she would practice in the house so that was a familiar sound to hear when we were with her. We were close, living in the same house together extended family-wise. I used to invite her to come to my familys shore house in LBI as well which she loved t!
o do. (Hopefully that triggered her love of the ocean.) I divorced in the early 80s but remained close to the family so we saw each other on family occasions, holidays, etc each year even when she lived in NY. So throughout the years MJ went from being my sister in law to just being My Sister. I don't think we ever had a fight or a cross word but maybe as Donell said when she was muttering under her breath it could have been about about me. Just recently I discovered how much patience she had when she talked to me about her work with the folks in the group home. She took the time to learn about what they liked and then set about to make that happen. She took them to see concerts and also took them camping. How many people would rise to that level of dedication and compassion to go that far over and above doing her job? She would also patiently point out to them a better way to do even the simplest of things. No matter how much time it took she waited and helped them even asking the staff to be a little more patient with them too. I think she got angrier at some of the staff/heirarchy than she did with her patients. I was so glad to have come to Troy this fall and see her on her home turf and talk and learn her latest philosophy and her wishes. I felt warmly welcomed.. Still a beautiful sister with a beautiful smile... will miss that smile and the little zingers that she could nonchalantly throw into any conversation. MJ my sister I will miss you very much and I love you with all my heart. You are one of the strongest willed people I ever met. When I am feeling weak I will remember your strength and pray that strength will help me be able that much stronger myself. Your memories will live on here on earth even though you are no longer physically here. Carry on MJ wherever you are and let your spirit carry us forward in strength and in love

I remember her love of drum corps when our son Jacob "Jake from State Farm" was in Excelsior with her. May she rest in peace in her heavenly home; no longer in pain or suffering. My thoughts and prayers are with her family.
